Chapter 19 - Leaving the Marina

The convoy of reinforced black SUVs rolled out from under the corrugated iron overhang of Warehouse 44 just as the sun broke fully over the choppy, gray waters of the Long Island Sound. The heavy maritime fog was rapidly burning off under the morning breeze, exposing the stark industrial landscape of rusted cranes, stacked cargo containers, and silent loading docks.
In the lead vehicle, Dominic sat in the passenger seat once more, his heavy wool overcoat unbuttoned at the collar. His graphite-gray wheelchair was securely stowed behind the partition in the rear, its mechanical hum silent as the vehicle accelerated onto the coastal highway. Isabella sat beside him in the back, her head resting softly against his shoulder, her hand intertwined securely with his. Neither of them spoke; the silence between them was no longer heavy with anticipation or fear, but weighted with the quiet peace of absolute survival.

Behind them, trailing thirty yards back, the secondary transport van carried Victor Moretti toward his final, secluded destination. The syndicate’s internal civil war had ended not with a dramatic collapse, but with the cold, efficient restoration of order by a man whom everyone had written off as broken.
Dominic reached into his pocket once more, his fingers brushing against the empty velvet lining of the jeweler's box that had held the ring now resting securely on Isabella’s finger. He felt no lingering shadow of the pain that had once paralyzed his chest. The grief, the betrayal, and the physical trauma had all been forged into armor. He had his life back, he had his future back, and the Moretti name was once again an unyielding monolith in the underworld.
