Chapter 16 - The Ultimatum
The abandoned steel mill loomed entirely ominously against the dark, violent clouds of the impending storm.
It was a massive, rusted structure composed of heavy iron beams, shattered glass windows, and completely dark, echoing corridors.
Adrian sat quietly in his heavily modified tactical wheelchair entirely outside the massive iron gates, completely soaked by the freezing rain.
He had explicitly ordered his army of enforcers to completely surround the entire perimeter but to hold their fire.
Viktor had heavily promised to detonate the explosive charges the exact second he saw an armed strike team approaching.
"Adrian, you absolutely cannot go in there completely alone," his top captain argued desperately through the encrypted comms.
"It is a suicide mission, Boss, the entire building is rigged to aggressively blow you to pieces."
"I am completely going in alone," Adrian stated with absolute, terrifying finality, checking the heavy weapons strapped to his chair.
Suddenly, a massive, heavily armored black SUV pulled up aggressively next to Adrian’s position in the rain.
The passenger door opened, and Maya stepped out, wearing a completely dark tactical jacket and clutching a loaded shotgun.
Adrian’s dark eyes widened in absolute shock, immediately rolling his chair toward her to block her path.
"Maya, what in the absolute hell are you doing here?" Adrian demanded fiercely, his voice completely betraying his panic.
"I told you to stay completely safe at the safehouse with the guards!"
Maya did not flinch, her beautiful face hardened into a mask of pure, absolute maternal aggression.
"She is my daughter, Adrian, and I am absolutely not going to sit in a quiet room while she is terrified in the dark," Maya stated firmly.
"I am not entirely helpless anymore. You explicitly taught me how to shoot, and I am completely coming with you."
Adrian looked into her fiercely determined eyes, entirely realizing that he could not possibly stop her.
He felt an incredibly profound, massive surge of pride and absolute love for the brave woman standing in front of him.
"You stay completely behind me, and if I tell you to run, you do not hesitate for a single second," Adrian compromised aggressively.
Maya nodded heavily, completely pumping a fresh shell into the chamber of her heavy shotgun.
Adrian aggressively pushed the joystick of his wheelchair, completely blowing the heavy iron gates open with his chair's ramming guard.
