Chapter 12 - The Sins of the Father

Within exactly thirty minutes, the grand foyer of the Moretti mansion was completely transformed into an aggressive military staging ground.

Twenty of Adrian’s most elite, heavily armed enforcers stood in a rigid line, their faces completely pale with terror.

Adrian wheeled himself slowly down the line, inspecting his men with the cold, calculating eyes of a starving apex predator.

"Someone walked into my daughter’s bedroom while she was sleeping and left a death threat on her pillow," Adrian announced softly.

The dangerous softness in his voice was infinitely more terrifying than if he had simply screamed in absolute rage.

"I pay you incredibly well to ensure that the air in this mansion does not move without my explicit permission," Adrian continued.

He stopped his wheelchair directly in front of a young, visibly sweating guard named Thomas.

"Thomas, your shift covered the entire second-floor residential wing last night, did it not?" Adrian asked, his voice deceptively gentle.

"Yes, Boss, but I swear on my mother’s life, absolutely no one bypassed my patrol route," Thomas stammered uncontrollably.

Adrian reached into his suit jacket and pulled out a heavily detailed financial report that his hackers had procured ten minutes ago.

"Then please explain to me why exactly fifty thousand dollars was magically deposited into your sister’s medical account at two in the morning," Adrian demanded.

Thomas completely collapsed to his knees, bursting into pathetic, desperate tears on the expensive marble floor.

"Viktor Volkov found out about her cancer treatments, Boss, he promised he would pay for the surgeries if I just left a letter!" Thomas sobbed.

"He promised he absolutely was not going to hurt the little girl, he just wanted to send a message!"

Adrian looked down at the sobbing traitor, completely devoid of even a single ounce of human mercy or compassion.

"You let the devil into the room where my child sleeps," Adrian whispered, drawing his customized heavy pistol in one fluid motion.

The deafening gunshot violently echoed through the massive foyer, and Thomas collapsed instantly to the marble floor.

The remaining guards completely flinched, absolutely horrified by the sheer, unhesitating brutality of their boss.

"Drag his worthless body outside and hang him from the front gates," Adrian commanded his captains without blinking.

"I want Viktor Volkov to know exactly what happens to the rats he pays to infest my home."

Adrian holstered his weapon, completely re-embracing the terrifying, violent darkness that he had previously buried.

He wheeled himself back toward his study, knowing that Viktor was trying to break him psychologically before a physical attack.
