Chapter 5 - The Final Judgment and the Dawn of a New Empire

The rain poured down in sheets, soaking them to the bone as they burst out of the administrative building and sprinted into the labyrinth of shipping containers. The yard was a maze of towering steel walls and deep, muddy puddles.
In the distance, the silhouette of a man was sprinting frantically toward the outer perimeter gate where a getaway car idled with its engine roaring.
Donald Vance.
Vincent and Mave cut across a diagonal alleyway between two stacked container units, sprinting hard to head him off before he reached the gate. Mave’s lungs burned with the cold damp air, but adrenaline fueled every step. She wasn't the timid secretary hiding behind a mahogany desk anymore; she was a survivor fighting for her life and her future.
As Donald reached the chain-link fence, slipping his wet hands into the wire to climb over, Vincent stepped out from the shadows of a towering crane, blocking his path.
“End of the line, Donald,” Vincent said, his voice cutting cleanly through the roaring wind and rain.
Donald spun around, panting heavily, panic distorting his features. He desperately fumbled inside his trench coat, pulling out a compact revolver and leveling it with a shaking hand straight at Vincent’s chest.
“Stay back, Costa! I swear to God I’ll put a bullet through your heart!” Donald screamed hysterically.
Before Donald could pull the trigger, Mave emerged from the darkness to his flank. Seizing a heavy iron tie-down chain resting on a wooden pallet, she swung it with all her might, striking Donald across the wrist with a sharp, metallic clang.
The revolver slipped from Donald’s numb fingers, clattering uselessly into the mud.
With a roar of pure fury, Vincent closed the distance in two giant strides, driving a brutal right hook directly into Donald’s jaw. The traitor collapsed instantly into the dirt, unconscious before he even hit the ground.
Vincent stood over him, breathing heavily, the rain washing the blood and mud from his hands. He turned slowly, looking at Mave as she stood a few feet away, chest heaving, rain plastering her hair against her face.
The threat was neutralized. The Maroni syndicate’s pipeline was shattered, the internal rat was caught, and the Costa empire was purged of its rot.
Vincent walked over to her, closing the distance between them until he was standing close enough to feel the heat radiating from her skin. Without a word of hesitation, he reached out, cupping her face with his warm hands, and pulled her into a fierce, absolute embrace.
“You saved my life back there,” Vincent murmured against her hair.
“We saved each other,” Mave whispered, wrapping her arms tightly around his waist.
Three months later, the Maybach pulled up to the grand entrance of the Costa Syndicate’s newly renovated downtown headquarters. The rain had cleared, replaced by the brilliant, golden light of a crisp autumn morning.
Mave stepped out of the car, wearing a sharp, tailored crimson blazer and sleek black trousers. She walked up the marble steps, holding a fresh ceramic mug of black coffee with two sugars.
Inside the executive office, the Belize accounts were balanced down to the very last penny, the shipping lanes were secure, and the underworld knew without a shadow of a doubt that crossing Vincent Costa meant facing the wrath of both a ruthless mafia boss and the brilliant, fearless woman standing by his side.
Vincent sat behind his polished mahogany desk, looking up as the door clicked open.
Mave walked in, placed the ceramic mug gently on the wood, and let her fingers brush against his for a fraction of a second—not with the hesitant touch of an employee, but with the unyielding grip of a partner who owned his entire heart.

“Good morning, Mr. Costa,” Mave said with a small, knowing smile.
Vincent stood up, pulling her close by the waist, his dark eyes shining with absolute devotion. “Good morning, Mave. Let’s run the world.”
