Chapter 32 - The Final Ledger

The spring sun dipped slowly toward the western hills, painting the sky in violent, magnificent shades of violet, burnt orange, and deep indigo. Inside the grand conservatory, the small mahogany desk stood bathed in the warm, golden light of late afternoon.
On top of the desk rested the blank sheet of paper from New Year's Eve—the one bearing their intertwined signatures beneath the single, unshakeable sentence: All debts paid in full. The future is unwritten.
Sloan and Raphael stood together by the tall windows, watching the first evening stars begin to pierce through the velvet dark. There were no financial ledgers left to audit, no emergency alerts waiting in the shadows, and no ghosts haunting the corridors of their home. There was only the gentle evening breeze, the distant chime of the village church bells, and the profound, beautiful weight of an entirely unwritten tomorrow.
Raphael turned to look at her, his dark eyes shining with quiet, absolute devotion. He pulled her close against his chest, their breath mingling in the cool air of the room.
"What do we write next?" Raphael asked softly, his voice a low, steady promise against her hair.
May you like
Sloan smiled, looking up into his eyes as she slid her arms around his shoulders, holding him close.
"Whatever we want," Sloan whispered, as the night wrapped its quiet arms around the estate. "The page is entirely ours."
