Chapter 3 - The Transformation

The next morning, I woke up to an army of stylists standing outside my guest room.

Vincent had apparently decided that his new "girlfriend" needed a wardrobe to match his status.

For four hours, women in chic black outfits measured, pinned, styled, and pampered me.

They washed away the exhaustion of my double shifts and replaced it with glowing skin and elegant makeup.

When I finally looked in the full-length mirror, I barely recognized myself.

I was wearing a stunning, form-fitting emerald green dress that hugged curves Tyler had constantly called "too fat."

My hair fell in soft, voluminous waves, framing a face that suddenly looked fierce and confident.

I wasn't the invisible waitress anymore.

A knock on the door pulled me from my thoughts, and Vincent stepped into the room.

He was dressed in a sharp charcoal suit, looking every bit the ruthless king of Chicago.

When his eyes landed on me, he froze completely.

The cold, calculating businessman vanished, replaced by a man staring with raw hunger.

"You look..." he started, clearing his throat as if searching for the right word.

"Do I look the part?" I asked nervously, smoothing my hands over the silk fabric.

He closed the distance between us, his gaze trailing from my heels to my eyes.

"You look dangerous, Emily," he murmured, his voice thick with emotion.

"Tyler told me green made me look wide," I blurted out before I could stop myself.

A terrifying darkness flashed in Vincent's eyes at the mention of my ex's name.

He reached out, his thumb gently tracing my jawline.

"Tyler is a blind fool who couldn't handle a real woman," Vincent said firmly.

He offered me his arm, a wicked smile playing on his lips.

"Tonight, we are attending the Sterling Charity Gala."

My heart skipped a beat because I knew that gala.

It was the exact event Tyler's wealthy new father-in-law was hosting.

"Are you ready to show him exactly what he lost?" Vincent asked.

May you like

I lifted my chin, feeling a newfound power surging through my veins.

"I'm ready," I said.
