Chapter 14 - The Queens Gambit

The underground casino at the Continental Hotel was an overwhelming, deeply intoxicating mixture of expensive cigar smoke, spilled champagne, and dangerous men.
I wore a stunning, backless crimson dress that perfectly commanded attention while completely hiding the high-tech earpiece resting in my left ear.
"I have complete access to the hotel's internal security cameras, Emily," Vincent’s deep, reassuring voice crackled softly through my hidden earpiece.
"You have exactly fifteen minutes to bypass the main floor and reach the manager's office before the guard rotation changes."
I walked confidently through the crowded casino floor, smiling politely at the dangerous mobsters who stared hungrily at my every move.
I successfully slipped unnoticed into the restricted, dimly lit back hallway, my heart pounding aggressively against my ribs.
Two heavily armed guards were standing directly in front of the manager's heavy oak door, looking completely bored but entirely lethal.
"Take a deep breath, Emily, and use the distraction protocol we discussed," Vincent instructed calmly, anchoring my racing mind.
I deliberately pulled the hidden pin on the small, highly advanced smoke canister Vincent had given me and rolled it smoothly under a nearby laundry cart.
Seconds later, a massive, thick cloud of white smoke violently erupted into the narrow hallway, triggering the hotel’s blaring fire alarms.
The two guards cursed loudly, immediately stepping away from the secure door to frantically investigate the sudden, chaotic threat.
I used the brief, chaotic window of opportunity to slip silently behind them and easily pick the electronic lock with the device Vincent had provided.
I stepped quickly into the lavish manager's office, locking the heavy door completely behind me to ensure my absolute safety.
Marcus’s sleek, highly secured briefcase was resting innocently on the polished mahogany desk, exactly as we had brilliantly predicted.
I plugged the small, specialized decryption drive into the briefcase's electronic lock, silently praying that Vincent’s tech team was as good as he claimed.
The lock clicked open with a beautiful, highly satisfying sound, revealing a massive stack of highly detailed, incriminating financial documents.
I quickly took high-resolution photos of every single page using my specialized phone, ensuring we had the absolute proof we needed to clear our names.

"I have the files, Vincent," I whispered excitedly into my earpiece, feeling an incredible, overwhelming surge of triumphant adrenaline.
"Get out of there right now, my beautiful queen," Vincent replied urgently, "Marcus is heading directly toward your current location."
