Chapter 15 - Blood and Betrayal

I managed to escape the manager's office through the hidden service elevator just seconds before Marcus Romano forcefully breached the door.
When I finally arrived safely back at the secure penthouse, Vincent pulled me into an incredibly desperate, breathtakingly fierce kiss.
"You are absolutely the bravest, most terrifyingly brilliant woman I have ever met," Vincent murmured, pressing his forehead directly against mine.
"We finally have the concrete proof to completely destroy Marcus and completely clear your family name," I smiled proudly, handing him the encrypted phone.
Suddenly, the heavy doors of the penthouse were violently kicked open, entirely shattering the beautiful, victorious moment.
Marco, Vincent’s most trusted head of security, walked aggressively into the room with his high-powered tactical weapon drawn and aimed directly at us.
"I am incredibly sorry, Boss, but Marcus Romano simply pays much better than you do," Marco stated coldly, his eyes completely devoid of any former loyalty.
My blood instantly ran completely cold at the terrifying, undeniable realization that our most trusted friend was a treacherous, deadly mole.
"You completely sold out your own brothers for a handful of bloody cash?" Vincent growled softly, casually stepping in front of me to shield my body.
"Marcus promised me complete control of the southern district once you are entirely out of the picture," Marco sneered, tightening his finger on the trigger.
Before Marco could even fire a single shot, Vincent moved with a terrifying, blinding speed that I could barely comprehend.
Vincent aggressively threw a heavy crystal whiskey decanter directly at Marco’s head, violently shattering the glass and momentarily stunning the traitor.
In that brief, chaotic second, Vincent drew his own suppressed pistol and fired two incredibly precise, devastating shots into Marco’s chest.
Marco collapsed heavily onto the expensive Persian rug, his massive betrayal violently ending in a pool of dark red blood.
"We need to leave this penthouse immediately, Emily," Vincent commanded urgently, aggressively pulling me toward the secret emergency exit.
"If Marcus compromised my head of security, this entire building is absolutely crawling with his heavily armed mercenaries."

We ran frantically down the hidden, concrete maintenance stairs, entirely abandoning our beautiful home to deeply survive the night.
The violent war had finally breached our absolute innermost sanctuary, and trust was now a luxury we could no longer afford.
