Chapter 11 - Building the Sanctuary

Six months after Gavin’s sentencing, life in the Mercer household had blossomed into something truly magical.
I had officially expanded my small interior design practice into a full-scale consultancy, partnering with several historic preservation societies across the Gulf Coast. My work was featured in regional home magazines, not because of Daniel’s name, but because of my own talent, dedication, and vision.
One evening, after putting Lily to bed, Daniel and I sat on our wide back porch overlooking the manicured lawn and the glowing swimming pool.
Daniel handed me a small, beautifully wrapped velvet box.
I looked at him, surprised. "What’s this? It’s not my birthday or our anniversary."
"Open it," he smiled warmly.
I untied the silk ribbon and opened the lid. Inside rested an exquisite gold key charm set with a tiny diamond at its center.
"What is this for?" I asked, touched by its delicate beauty.
"That key opens the front door of the old coastal estate in Fairhope you’ve been admiring for the past two years," Daniel revealed softly. "Mercer Global closed on the property yesterday. It’s registered entirely under your name, Nora."
My hands covered my mouth. "Daniel... that historic estate? You bought it for us?"
May you like
"I bought it for you," Daniel corrected gently, taking the key and fastening it around my neck on a delicate gold chain. "A place where you can design your dream studio, where Lily can grow up with a massive garden, and where we can build memories that belong only to us."
Tears of gratitude filled my eyes as I leaned into his chest, feeling the steady, comforting beat of his heart.
