Chapter 13 - The Sterling Ultimatum

The next morning broke with a heavy, suffocating fog that rolled off the Charleston harbor and swallowed the Caldwell estate.
Adrian had not slept a single minute, spending the entire night in the command center monitoring the perimeter cameras.
At exactly eight in the morning, a sleek black limousine pulled up to the heavily fortified front gates.
Marcus zoomed in on the security feed, his jaw tightening as the tinted window slowly rolled down.
Arthur Sterling was sitting in the back seat, looking exhausted, bitter, and completely determined.
"He is alone, except for his driver and a man in a very expensive suit holding a briefcase," Marcus reported over the intercom.
"Let him in," Adrian commanded, walking out of the command center and stepping into the grand foyer.
When the heavy wooden doors opened, Sterling stepped inside, leaning heavily on his wooden cane.
The man beside him was undeniably a high-powered corporate attorney, his face a mask of absolute arrogance.
"I am not here to fight you physically, Caldwell," Sterling said, his voice raspy but firm.
"I am here to serve you with federal custody papers, demanding the immediate return of my legally adopted son."
The attorney popped open the briefcase and handed a thick stack of legal documents to Adrian.
Adrian did not even look at the papers; he simply dropped them onto the marble floor and stepped directly into Sterling's personal space.
"You bought a kidnapped child on the black market, Arthur," Adrian growled, his voice vibrating with lethal intent.
"If you try to take this to a judge, I will expose your illegal transaction to the FBI and have you thrown in a federal penitentiary."
Sterling did not flinch, his eyes filled with the desperate, heartbreaking grief of a father who had lost his child twice.
"I did not know he was kidnapped, Adrian," Sterling pleaded, his voice breaking with raw emotion.
"The orphanage told me his parents died in a car crash, and I paid the million dollars as a charitable donation to secure the adoption."
"I raised Thomas for five years, I loved him, I kept him safe, and I will not let you traumatize him by ripping him away from the only stable home he has ever known."
Before Adrian could unleash his fury, Claire’s soft voice echoed from the top of the grand staircase.
"His name is Noah," Claire said, her voice surprisingly steady and clear.
Both billionaires looked up to see Claire walking slowly down the stairs, wearing an elegant white dress, looking more beautiful and sane than she had in a decade.
Noah was walking right beside her, holding her hand tightly.
Sterling let out a ragged gasp, tears instantly filling his tired eyes as he looked at the boy.
"Thomas," Sterling whispered, taking a desperate step forward.
Noah looked at the old man, his green eyes filled with a complicated mix of deep affection and ultimate certainty.
"I'm sorry, Arthur," Noah said softly, his voice echoing perfectly in the silent hallway.

"You were very good to me, and I will always love you for saving me from that dark place."
"But these are my real parents, and I am finally exactly where I belong."
