Chapter 17 - The Eternal Coast

Late Sunday afternoon, Adrien and Evelyn walked out onto the wide wooden deck overlooking the sweeping expanse of the Maine coast. The sun hung low in the western sky, bathing the crashing surf and the weathered cedar shingles of their home in a magnificent, golden-hour radiance.

Evelyn leaned against the wooden railing, her dark hair catching the gentle sea breeze, holding a cup of lukewarm tea in her hands. Adrien stood right beside her, his fingers interlaced with hers, looking out toward the infinite horizon where the deep blue of the ocean met the brilliant gold of the sky.

There were no ghosts left to haunt them. No enemies lurking in the shadows of their past. No contracts, no syndicates, and no corporate thrones to defend.

There was only the quiet roar of the Atlantic, the solid warmth of the wooden home behind them, and the unbreakable bond of two souls who had crossed through the fires of the underworld to find their true north.

“Are you happy, Evelyn?” Adrien asked softly, breaking the peaceful silence of the afternoon.

Evelyn turned her head, looking up at him with a smile so radiant and complete it rivaled the sunset itself. She squeezed his hand tightly, feeling the pulse of life, love, and absolute freedom coursing through her veins.

“I’ve never been more alive, Adrien,” she answered, her voice ringing clear, strong, and entirely at peace against the crashing surf.

And as the golden light faded slowly into the deep, star-studded velvet of the night, the world outside continued to spin, but inside their sanctuary on the edge of the world, their story was finally, perfectly, their own.
