Chapter 6 - The Genesis Syndicate

By the next morning, Roman’s entire empire was mobilized.
I sat in the massive kitchen of the estate, feeding oatmeal to my three children.
Their names were Leo, Max, and Mia.
Roman had named them, but I didn't want to change them.
They were happy, healthy, and completely obsessed with me.
Roman walked into the kitchen, wearing a dark tactical shirt and holstering a weapon.
"The Genesis Syndicate is based out of a private clinic downtown," he said, pouring a cup of black coffee.
"Donovan is leading a team there now to retrieve all their records."
"We need to destroy the network before they realize Dr. Aris is missing."
"Are we safe here?" I asked, wiping oatmeal from Max’s chin.
"This house is a fortress," Roman assured me.
"I have fifty armed guards on the property."
"No one gets in."
But just as he spoke those words, a massive explosion shook the ground beneath us.
The windows of the kitchen shattered inward, raining glass across the marble floor.
Roman lunged forward, throwing his large body over me and the high chairs to shield us.
Alarms immediately began blaring throughout the mansion.
"They found out," Roman growled, pulling his gun.
"They know I'm coming for them, and they are trying to eliminate the evidence."
"And that includes you and the children."
He grabbed my hand and pulled me to my feet.
"Take the babies."
"We are going to the panic room."
I scooped up Mia, while Roman grabbed Leo and Max, tucking them under his massive arms like footballs.

Gunfire erupted from the front gates.
The war had arrived at our doorstep.
