Chapter 3 - The Blood Test

The silence in the nursery was deafening.
"Bought?" I repeated, my voice shaking with a mix of rage and horror.
Roman stepped fully into the room, dismissing the nannies with a sharp nod.
"My wife died of a sudden illness two years ago," he explained, his eyes never leaving the babies.
"I wanted a family, but I didn't want to remarry."
He crossed his arms, looking like a king defending his castle.
"I paid ten million dollars to a private medical broker who guaranteed three healthy, legally surrendered infants."
I felt sick to my stomach.
"They weren't surrendered," I whispered fiercely.
"I was told my babies died during an emergency C-section."
"I never saw their bodies."
Roman's face hardened into a mask of pure violence.
"Donovan!" he roared, and the scarred man instantly appeared in the doorway.
"Get Dr. Evans on the phone right now."
"Tell him to bring his genetic testing equipment."
Roman turned back to me, his dark eyes searching my face.
"If what you are saying is true, someone stole from you."
"And worse, someone made a fool out of me."
"We are doing a DNA test tonight."
I nodded, holding the three sleeping angels closer to my chest.
"I want the test," I said firmly.
"But if they are mine, you cannot keep them."
Roman stepped closer, towering over me.
"If they are yours, Pamela, we have a much bigger problem."
"Because on paper, I am their legal father."
"And Roman Voss does not give up what belongs to him."

The threat hung in the air, cold and terrifying.
But as I looked down at the children who shared my hazel eyes, I knew I would fight the devil himself for them.
