Chapter 20 - The True Horizon

The air conditioning in the private jet hummed softly as I looked out the window at the clouds below.

Natalie sat across from me in the luxurious leather seat, reviewing the final signatures on our new contract.

We had won the tech conglomerate merger, officially pushing our firm's valuation past the hundred-million-dollar mark.

I was no longer just a successful consultant; I was a recognized industry titan with an unbreakable empire.

I opened my laptop, pulling up the digital blueprints for the new corporate headquarters we were building in downtown Boston.

It was going to be a massive glass skyscraper, a permanent monument to the resilience and brilliance of women who refuse to be broken.

I poured a glass of sparkling water, adding a slice of fresh lemon, and leaned back in my seat.

For ten years, I had believed that my purpose was to support a man who was fundamentally unworthy of my loyalty.

I had thought that shrinking myself to fit into Daniel's small, fragile ego was the definition of love.

I knew better now.

True love was not sacrifice without reward, and it was certainly not enduring disrespect to keep a broken home together.

True love was the profound, radical act of finally choosing yourself when the rest of the world tells you to surrender.

"Are you ready for the press conference in New York?" Natalie asked, interrupting my thoughts with a bright smile.

"I have never been more ready for anything in my entire life," I replied, closing my laptop with a definitive snap.

The plane banked gently, turning toward the bright, limitless horizon of the eastern seaboard.

The storm was over, the wreckage had been cleared, and the sun was shining exclusively on me.

I took a deep breath, feeling completely, utterly, and fiercely free.
