Chapter 17 - The Trap Springs

Claire frowned, looking down at the tablet in her hands with a sudden flash of profound uncertainty.

She swiped the screen aggressively, scrolling to the final page of the stolen financial document.

The complex graphs and charts disappeared, replaced by a single, high-definition photograph.

It was a crystal-clear image of Claire taking the stolen flash drive from Daniel in the underground parking garage.

Below the photograph was a timestamp and a detailed log of the illegal server breach.

Claire’s face drained of all color, her jaw dropping open as her hands began to shake violently.

The expensive tablet slipped from her trembling fingers, shattering loudly against the marble ballroom floor.

The sharp sound of breaking glass silenced the surrounding crowd, and all eyes turned toward her panic-stricken face.

Gregory Vance pushed his way through the crowd, looking at his terrified wife and the broken tablet on the floor.

"Claire, what is the meaning of this?" Gregory demanded, his face flushing with embarrassment.

"Gregory, she set me up!" Claire shrieked, pointing a shaking, manicured finger directly at my face.

"She planted fake files on her server and lured me into taking them!"

I looked at Gregory, my expression completely serene and professional.

"Your wife just publicly confessed to hiring my ex-husband to commit corporate espionage against my firm, Gregory," I stated clearly.

"She used your company resources to orchestrate a federal felony."

Gregory stared at me, then looked down at the shattered tablet where the undeniable photographic evidence was still visible.

He realized in a single, terrifying heartbeat that his new wife had just destroyed his entire legacy.

"You stupid, arrogant fool," Gregory hissed at Claire, his voice vibrating with absolute disgust.

"I am filing for divorce in the morning, and I am handing you over to the authorities myself."

Claire let out a gut-wrenching scream, lunging toward me with her hands outstretched like claws.

Before she could even touch my gown, hotel security intercepted her, dragging her thrashing and screaming out of the elegant ballroom.

I took a slow, elegant sip of my champagne, turning back to the stunned circle of investors.
