Chapter 7 - NEW BEGINNINGS

The decision felt as natural as breathing.
Over the next two months, the dark gray clouds that had hung over the Moretti mansion for years finally dissolved. The mansion, once cold and austere, was now filled with laughter, music, and the smell of fresh home-cooked meals.
Emma’s mother was successfully transferred to a top-tier medical recovery facility fully funded by Gabriel’s estate. Her prognosis was bright, and for the first time in her life, Emma didn't have to worry about rent, medical bills, or survival.
In the eyes of the public and Gabriel's business associates, the balance of power in New York had shifted permanently. With the Falcone crime syndicate completely dismantled by federal indictments and Gabriel's strategic maneuvers, the Moretti family stood unchallenged. But inside the mansion walls, Gabriel was stripping away his identity as a mafia boss. He began delegating his logistics and shipping empire to trusted lieutenants, determined to spend his life as a full-time father and partner.
One sunny Saturday afternoon, the estate lawn was set up for a family picnic. Sophia was running through the sprinklers, her joyful screams ringing across the estate.
Gabriel sat on a soft plaid blanket, watching Lily.
Lily was standing on the green grass in a light blue sundress. She no longer used her metallic frame. Her right leg was still somewhat weaker than her left, but through months of gentle encouragement, love, and daily play with Emma, her nervous system had rebuilt its pathways.
"Watch me, Daddy!" Lily called out, her voice bright and confident.
She took five steps, then six, balancing carefully on the uneven grass. She stumbled slightly, but instead of crying or shutting down as she used to, she simply laughed, caught her balance, and kept walking until she reached Emma, who was sitting at the edge of the blanket.
Emma caught her, kissing her cheek. "Look at you, my brave girl!"
Gabriel watched them, his heart swelling with a warmth he hadn't felt since before his late wife’s passing. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small velvet box he had been carrying for weeks.
He shifted on the blanket, moving closer to Emma.
Emma looked over at him, noticing the serious, emotional look in his eyes. "Gabriel? Is something wrong?"
"For a long time, I thought this house was cursed," Gabriel began softly, his voice rich with emotion. "I thought my wealth could buy protection, but all it bought was walls. And then you walked in with a modest suitcase and a soft voice, and you showed us how to live again."
He opened the velvet box, revealing a flawless, cushion-cut diamond ring that caught the afternoon sunlight.
Emma’s breath hitched, her hand flying to her mouth.
"You brought my daughter back to me," Gabriel said, taking her hand gently in his. "And you brought me back to life. Emma Brooks, will you marry me and make this family whole?"
Tears of pure happiness streamed down Emma’s cheeks. She looked at Lily, who was clapping her small hands, and at Sophia, who came running over to sit on Gabriel’s lap.

"Yes," Emma whispered, her voice filled with emotion. "Yes, Gabriel! A thousand times yes!"
Gabriel slipped the ring onto her finger and pulled her into a passionate, tender kiss as their daughters cheered around them.
