Chapter 14 - THE SEED OF A NEW LIFE

Two years after their wedding renewal, joy returned to Cliffhaven in its purest, most sacred form.

Inside the quiet, sun-drenched master bedroom overlooking the Atlantic, the golden morning light poured across the wide pine floors.

Brooke lay propped against plush pillows, holding a swaddled bundle against her chest.

Wrapped in a soft, hand-knitted ivory blanket was their newborn son: Thomas Mark Sterling, named in honor of Mark’s late father. The baby had a tuft of thick dark curls, rosy cheeks, and bright, curious hazel eyes that blinked peacefully up at his mother.

Mark sat on the edge of the mattress, his broad, athletic frame trembling slightly, his eyes wet with tears of profound, sacred joy, kissing Brooke’s forehead with tender devotion.

Five-year-old Lily tiptoed into the room in her socks, holding a small plush toy whale, her eyes wide with wonder as she looked at her new baby cousin.

"He’s so tiny, Uncle Mark," Lily whispered, gently touching the baby’s soft cheek with her finger.

"He’s tiny now, my brave girl," Mark smiled warmly, resting his large hand over his niece’s fingers. "And he’s going to need the best cake critic in the world to show him which frosting is the best."

Lily giggled proudly, puffing out her chest: "I'll teach him how to steal the flowers, Uncle Mark! Nobody will ever get in trouble!"

Diane Sterling walked into the room carrying a small pair of hand-knitted yellow booties, laughing softly as she wrapped her arms around her family, sealing their household whole under the warm morning sun.
