Chapter 6 - ENZO'S INVESTIGATION

The archive room door closed behind them.

Slowly.

Almost silently.

But Enzo noticed.

He noticed everything.

A man who survived Chicago’s most dangerous streets did not ignore small things.

He turned immediately.

“Who’s there?”

No answer.

The security guards rushed toward the door, but whoever had been outside was already gone.

Adeline stood frozen beside the shelves.

“What if they heard us?”

Enzo looked at the file in his hand.

“They wanted us to find it.”

She frowned.

“What?”

“This wasn’t a break-in.”

He looked around the room.

“This was a message.”

Someone wanted Enzo to know the truth.

But only enough truth to hurt him.

Not enough to save him.

Later that night, Enzo gathered his closest security team.

No family members.

No business partners.

No friends.

Only people he trusted.

“Find out who entered the archive room.”

His head of security, Luca, nodded.

“And Camilla?”

Enzo’s expression hardened.

“Watch her.”

Luca hesitated.

“You think she’s involved?”

Enzo looked at him.

“I think everyone is capable of hiding something.”

Including the people closest to him.

That answer surprised Luca.

Because Enzo Marchetti had spent his entire life believing family was different.

Now he wasn’t sure anymore.

The next morning, Adeline found Enzo alone in his office.

Old photographs covered the desk.

His father.

His mother.

A younger version of himself.

“You miss him.”

Enzo didn’t look up.

“Every day.”

Adeline stepped closer.

“My father died when I was young.”

Enzo looked at her.

“I’m sorry.”

She smiled sadly.

“You don’t have to be.”

A pause.

“I learned something.”

“What?”

“Sometimes losing someone doesn’t hurt as much as learning the truth about them.”

Those words hit him.

Because that was exactly what he was experiencing.

The fear that the father he loved had been surrounded by lies.

That night, Luca returned with information.

“We found something.”

Enzo turned.

“What?”

“The archive room security system was disabled from inside the mansion.”

His eyes narrowed.

“Inside?”

“Yes.”

Luca placed a photo on the desk.

A security employee entering the control room.

Enzo recognized him immediately.

One of his most trusted men.

The man who had worked for the Marchetti family for fifteen years.

“Impossible.”

Luca lowered his voice.

“Sir…”

Enzo stared at the picture.

“Everyone is possible.”

Then his phone rang.

This time, the number was familiar.

Camilla.

He answered.

Her voice sounded different.

Not angry.

Not arrogant.

Scared.

“Enzo.”

“What do you want?”

A pause.

“I know who killed your father.”

The room went silent.

Enzo stood.

“Where are you?”

Camilla whispered:

“Come alone.”

May you like

Then she added:

“Because the person you trust most is the one who betrayed you.”
