Chapter 10 - CAMILLA'S FINAL REVENGE

By morning, Adeline’s name was everywhere.

People who once praised her now questioned her.

That was the power of a carefully created lie.

A single accusation could make strangers forget the truth.

Enzo found Adeline sitting alone in the garden.

“You believe me, right?”

He stopped.

The question hurt him.

Because he understood why she asked.

She had spent her entire life being judged.

By people with money.

By people with power.

By people who thought they were better than her.

Enzo sat beside her.

“Yes.”

She looked at him.

“Without proof?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

He answered simply.

“Because I know what it feels like when everyone decides who you are before knowing the truth.”

That was the first time Adeline saw the pain behind his reputation.

The same loneliness.

The same feeling of being trapped by a name.

Later that day, Enzo’s lawyers discovered something.

The accusation against Adeline was based on fake documents.

Someone had created a false identity file.

Someone had changed her employment records.

Someone wanted the world to believe she was a criminal.

The question was...

Who?

The answer came from an unexpected person.

Eleanor Bell.

The elderly woman from the ballroom.

She arrived at the mansion carrying an old suitcase.

“I should have spoken years ago.”

Enzo looked at her.

“About what?”

She opened the suitcase.

Inside were letters.

Photographs.

Documents.

Proof.

“Your mother knew about your father’s investigation.”

Enzo’s jaw tightened.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Eleanor looked ashamed.

“Because she threatened my family.”

The room went silent.

“She told me if I spoke, my children would lose everything.”

Adeline looked at the documents.

“What did she hide?”

Eleanor handed Enzo one final envelope.

“Your father’s last message.”

Enzo opened it.

Only one sentence was written.

The person who betrays you will be the person you trust the most.

He looked up.

Because suddenly he knew.

The person closest to him.

The person he never suspected.

Was not Camilla.

Was not Victor.

May you like

It was someone much closer.

His own mother.
