Chapter 6 - The Empress Of Chicago

Six months later, the Grand Belmont Ballroom was alive with music and golden light.
Five hundred of the most powerful figures in the Midwest gathered for the annual Moretti Foundation Gala.
Billionaires, senators, and corporate titans stood in tight circles, speaking in hushed, reverent whispers as the grand brass doors opened at the top of the sweeping marble staircase.
"Ladies and gentlemen," the master of ceremonies announced over the orchestra. "Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Moretti."
Alexander stepped out onto the landing, wearing a bespoke midnight-blue tuxedo that highlighted his broad, commanding frame.
Beside him, with her hand resting comfortably in the crook of his arm, stood Emily.
She wore a breathtaking, emerald-green silk gown that hugged her soft curves with magnificent elegance, her dark hair pinned up with vintage diamond brooches.
Around her neck hung the historic Moretti emerald necklace, and on her finger, the eight-carat diamond caught the light of four crystal chandeliers.
The entire ballroom turned in unison, looking up at her in stunned, respectful awe.
She was no longer the frightened girl hiding under a desk with bare feet and a torn dress.
She was the undisputed queen of the city's largest commercial empire.
Alexander looked down at her, his amber eyes filled with open, unapologetic adoration.
"How does it feel, Mrs. Moretti?" he murmured softly, leaning in until his breath grazed her temple.
Emily looked across the sea of bowing heads, then up into the eyes of the man who had given her back her life, her pride, and her voice.

"It feels like freedom, Alexander," she smiled, her fingers tightening lovingly over his arm.
They descended the grand staircase together, stepping into the light as the orchestra swelled, ready to rule an empire built on loyalty, justice, and unbreakable love.
