Chapter 6 - The Feast of Traitors

The silence in the dining room was absolute, suffocating, and incredibly heavy.

Everett stepped fully into the room, his dark suit impeccable, his presence dominating the entire space like a vengeful god.

"Good evening, gentlemen," Everett said smoothly, his voice echoing coldly off the high, vaulted ceilings.

"I hope I am not interrupting the celebration of my impending funeral."

Dr. Whitfield turned a sickly shade of pale gray, stumbling backward until his back hit the large, decorative fireplace.

The corrupt lawyers at the table began to hyperventilate, realizing that they had backed the wrong horse and were completely trapped.

Sterling desperately tried to recover his arrogant composure, reaching quickly inside his tailored suit jacket for a concealed weapon.

Everett did not even raise his gun.

"I wouldn't do that, Sterling," Everett warned softly.

Marco and ten heavily armed soldiers stepped into the dining room behind Everett, their assault rifles raised and pointed directly at the traitors.

Sterling slowly removed his empty hand from his jacket, his face twisted in pure, unadulterated terror.

"Everett, please, this is a massive misunderstanding," Sterling stammered, attempting to lie his way out of a guaranteed execution.

"We were just trying to protect the family business while you were incapacitated."

Everett walked slowly around the long dining table, stopping directly in front of the sweating, terrified physician.

"Dr. Whitfield," Everett greeted him, completely ignoring Sterling's pathetic excuses.

"You took an oath to do no harm, but you gladly accepted offshore bribes to keep me locked in a chemical prison."

Whitfield fell to his knees, sobbing hysterically and begging for mercy.

"Sterling made me do it, Mr. Kane!" Whitfield wailed, pointing a trembling finger at the cousin.

"He threatened to destroy my medical practice if I didn't cooperate!"

Everett looked down at the pathetic doctor with absolute, terrifying disgust.

"You destroyed a brilliant nurse's life three years ago to cover up your own medical negligence," Everett stated coldly.

Whitfield’s eyes widened in sheer panic, realizing that Everett knew about Willa’s tragic history.

"You blamed Willa Hayes for a fatal mistake you made, entirely ruining her career and forcing her into homelessness."

"You are a coward, Alan."

Everett turned to Marco, giving a subtle, lethal nod of his head.

"Take the good doctor and the lawyers out to the back gardens," Everett ordered calmly.

"Make sure they are never heard from again."

The soldiers grabbed the screaming, begging men and dragged them aggressively out of the dining room, leaving only Everett and his traitorous cousin.

Sterling was backed against the large bay windows, sweating profusely, completely abandoned by his corrupt allies.

"We are family, Everett," Sterling pleaded desperately, raising his hands in a pathetic gesture of surrender.

"You cannot kill your own blood."

Everett closed the distance between them, grabbing Sterling violently by the throat and pinning him against the cold glass.

"You are not family, Sterling," Everett growled, his grip tightening ruthlessly around the traitor's windpipe.

"You are a parasite that I allowed to feed on my table."

"And now, you are going to pay for every single second I spent trapped in the dark."
