Chapter 18 - The King's Descent

The downtown charity clinic was entirely surrounded by corrupt police officers paid by the Russian syndicate, completely preventing any legitimate authorities from interfering.

Marcus Thorne had transformed the massive, five-story glass building into a heavily fortified, explosive death trap.

Everett did not drive a massive, armored convoy to the front door; he knew exactly how to move through his city undetected.

He utilized a forgotten, highly classified underground utility tunnel that connected directly to the sub-basement of the clinic.

Everett emerged from the dark tunnel, stepping silently into the sterile, white corridors of the lower levels.

He moved like a vengeful phantom, his suppressed weapon raised, his senses completely heightened by pure, absolute rage.

He encountered two heavily armed guards patrolling the electrical room.

Before they could even raise their weapons, Everett fired two flawless, suppressed shots, dropping them instantly to the floor.

He dragged their bodies into the shadows, utilizing their tactical radios to monitor Thorne’s internal communications.

Everett systematically worked his way up through the floors, neutralizing Thorne’s men with terrifying, absolute silence.

He utilized the shadows, the blind spots in the security cameras, and his intimate knowledge of the building's architecture to completely massacre the enemy forces.

By the time Everett reached the fourth floor, he had eliminated twenty-five heavily armed mercenaries without raising a single alarm.

He reached the heavy glass doors of Willa’s massive, luxurious executive office suite.

Inside, Marcus Thorne was sitting arrogantly behind Willa’s pristine desk, holding a heavy, electronic detonator.

Dozens of terrified doctors and nurses were forced to kneel on the floor in the adjacent lobby, guarded by Thorne’s remaining elite soldiers.

Everett did not kick the door down; he simply stepped into the doorway, revealing himself to the monster who had threatened his wife’s legacy.

"You are incredibly foolish for coming here alone, Kane," Marcus smiled, holding up the heavy detonator.

"One push of this button, and the entire block turns to ash."

Everett lowered his weapon, placing it slowly onto the floor, completely surrendering his tactical advantage.

He walked into the office, stopping exactly ten feet away from the New York boss.

"Press the button, Marcus," Everett commanded, his voice echoing coldly in the tense, terrifying silence.

Marcus frowned, entirely confused by the absolute lack of fear in Everett’s dark eyes.

"You think I am bluffing?" Marcus roared, slamming his thumb down aggressively onto the heavy red button.

Absolutely nothing happened.
