Chapter 18 - THE CHECKMATE

Desperate and completely ruined, Arthur Hale bypassed security and stormed into the Blackwood Tower lobby.

He was sweating profusely, his expensive suit wrinkled as he demanded to speak to Ethan face-to-face.

Ethan allowed the broken man to be escorted up to his penthouse office, where Richard Blackwood was also waiting.

"You have destroyed my legacy, Ethan!" Arthur screamed, spit flying from his lips as he paced the room.

"I will call off the press, I will drop the fake embezzlement story, just stop the hostile takeover!"

Ethan sat casually in his leather chair, tapping a silver pen against his desk with maddening slowness.

"Are you admitting, on the record, that the data breach and the media leaks were entirely fabricated by you?" Ethan asked coldly.

"Yes! I paid the hackers, I forged the routing numbers, just give me my company back!" Arthur begged, falling to his knees.

Ethan stopped tapping the pen and offered the older man a chilling, sociopathic smile.

He pressed a button under his desk, and the heavy office doors opened to reveal three FBI agents.

"Thank you for the confession, Arthur," Ethan said softly, his eyes glinting with lethal satisfaction.

"My office has been wired for sound since the day your lunatic daughter broke into my charity gala."

Arthur Hale's face drained of all color as the federal agents stepped forward and aggressively slapped metal handcuffs on his wrists.

Richard Blackwood poured himself a glass of scotch, watching his enemy being dragged away to federal prison.

The war was officially over, and the Blackwood family had won.
