Chapter 1 - THE GRANDFATHER'S TEARS

For a long, agonizing moment, the only sound in the luxurious dining room was the frantic beating of Hannah’s heart.
Richard Blackwood, a man feared by Wall Street and revered by politicians, slowly lowered his cane to the floor.
He did not care that the entire elite clientele of Chicago was watching him with bated breath.
His piercing blue eyes, usually cold and calculating, were suddenly shining with thick, unspilled tears as he looked at the little boy.
"Yes," Richard whispered, his voice cracking in a way that made the room feel incredibly fragile.
"I am your grandfather, Noah, and I have waited a very long time to finally meet you."
Noah’s face broke into a massive, radiant smile.
Without a single ounce of hesitation, the six-year-old stepped forward and wrapped his small arms around the old man's neck.
Richard let out a broken sob, pulling the boy tightly against his chest as if he were holding the most precious treasure on earth.
Ethan stood frozen by the table, the black credit card still sitting uselessly on the linen cloth.
The blood had drained entirely from Ethan's face, leaving him pale and utterly speechless as his reality fractured.
He looked from the boy with his exact eyes, to his father weeping on the floor, and finally to the woman he had spent seven years trying to hate.
Hannah stood tall, her shoulders squared, refusing to let Ethan see how badly her hands were shaking.
Victoria’s elegant mask of superiority shattered, replaced instantly by a look of wild, unadulterated panic.
"Richard, please," Victoria stammered, taking a desperate step forward in her expensive white heels.
"You don't know who this woman really is, or what kind of sick scam she is trying to pull on us."
Richard’s head snapped up, and the tender grandfather vanished, replaced instantly by the ruthless billionaire predator.
"Do not speak another word," Richard growled, his voice echoing like thunder across the quiet room.

"Your time manipulating this family, Victoria, is officially over."
The silence that followed was deafening, broken only by the soft, innocent sound of Noah patting his grandfather's back.
