Chapter 6 - The Broken Window

Marco did not hesitate for a single second, completely shifting into the ruthless, highly tactical general that ruled the criminal underworld.

He immediately ordered Dante to deploy three armored vehicles and twelve of his most elite, heavily armed soldiers.

“We are going to pick up Leo right now, and then you are both moving to my secure estate,” Marco commanded, pulling a heavy tactical vest out of a hidden wall safe.

Jenny wanted to argue, fiercely wanting to maintain her independence, but the absolute terror of losing her son kept her completely silent.

They rode in a massive, heavily armored black SUV, speeding frantically across the city back toward her run-down apartment building on Callaway Street.

The streets were eerily quiet as they pulled up to the crumbling brick building, the dark shadows hiding deadly secrets.

Jenny sprinted up the stairs ahead of Marco, completely driven by pure, frantic maternal adrenaline.

She burst into the elderly neighbor’s apartment, bursting into heavy tears of relief when she saw Leo safely asleep on the old couch.

She wrapped the sleeping boy tightly in a blanket, holding him fiercely against her chest as Marco led them rapidly back down the stairs.

Just as they stepped out of the front door and onto the concrete sidewalk, the horrific, deafening sound of squealing tires tore through the night.

Two massive, completely black vans violently aggressively swerved around the corner, heavily blocking both ends of the narrow street.

“Get down!” Marco roared fiercely, violently shoving Jenny and Leo directly behind a large brick pillar near the stairs.

The side doors of the black vans aggressively slid open, completely revealing heavily armed Russian mercenaries carrying automatic assault rifles.

They immediately unleashed a massive, deafening hail of gunfire directly at Marco’s armored vehicles, shattering the quiet neighborhood into absolute chaos.

Marco’s elite soldiers instantly returned precise, highly lethal fire, aggressively defending their boss and the innocent family hiding behind the brick wall.

Bullets violently chipped the brick pillar directly above Jenny’s head, showering her and her terrified, crying son in sharp, heavy dust.

Marco completely ignored his own safety, drawing his heavy silver pistol and stepping out from the cover to violently protect them.

He fired with terrifying, cold precision, dropping two Russian mercenaries instantly before they could even aim at the brick pillar.

The intense, violent street battle lasted for less than two terrifying minutes before the surviving Romanov thugs aggressively sped away in their damaged vans.

Marco walked quickly back to the pillar, his face completely devoid of any human mercy or fear, absolutely covered in brick dust and gun smoke.

“Are you hurt?” Marco demanded urgently, gently checking Leo’s tiny arms and Jenny’s trembling hands.

“We are fine,” Jenny sobbed quietly, completely overwhelmed by the sheer, absolute terror of the violent world she had just witnessed.

“I am so sorry I brought this darkness to your door, Jenny,” Marco whispered, completely breaking his own heart as he looked at their terrified faces.

“But I swear on my life, they will never, ever get close to you again.”
