Chapter 9 - The Arrests

The raid on the Westbridge Police Department was swift and merciless.
Dozens of black FBI SUVs surrounded the building, their lights flashing in the gray afternoon light.
Federal agents poured into the precinct, seizing every computer, file cabinet, and server.
I walked Captain Landry through his own lobby in handcuffs.
His officers stood silently, watching their corrupt leader being hauled away in disgrace.
No one tried to stop me.
No one dared to speak.
We loaded Landry into the back of a transport van.
Next, I walked down to the holding cells where Brooke was waiting.
Her makeup was smeared, and she looked exhausted.
"My father is going to destroy you," Brooke hissed as I opened the cell door.
"Your father’s bank accounts were frozen by the IRS twenty minutes ago," I informed her.
"He is currently being indicted for bribery and conspiracy to commit fraud."
Brooke collapsed onto the hard bench, finally realizing that her money and power meant nothing anymore.
She began to sob, real tears this time, as the gravity of her future set in.
"You hit a defenseless woman with a baseball bat," I told her quietly.
"You thought because she was kind, she was weak."
"You forgot that she raised a wolf."
I signaled for two agents to take Brooke away to the federal detention center.
As they escorted her out, I saw Arthur standing in the hallway, flanked by federal marshals.
He looked at me, his eyes pleading for forgiveness.

I turned my back on him and walked away.
Some betrayals can never be forgiven.
