Chapter 6 - The Weak Link

With Brooke in a holding cell, panic spread through the precinct like wildfire.
I needed the exact location of the weapon, and I knew exactly who to break to get it.
I pulled Officer Jenkins into the interrogation room.
He was sweating profusely, tapping his foot against the linoleum floor.
"I didn't do anything wrong," Jenkins repeated for the fifth time.
"I was following orders from my commanding officer."
I leaned over the metal table, invading his personal space.
"Following illegal orders from a corrupt captain does not grant you immunity, Jenkins," I told him.
"I have you on camera taking the weapon."
"I have Arthur’s sworn confession that you took the weapon."
"The only thing I don't have is the weapon itself."
I let the silence stretch, watching him crumble under the weight of his impending ruin.
"If you tell me where the bat is right now, I will recommend leniency to the federal prosecutor," I offered.
"If you make me find it myself, you will lose your badge, your pension, and your freedom."
Jenkins looked at the camera in the corner of the room, terrified.
"Landry is going to kill me," he whispered.
"Landry is going to be in a cell right next to you," I assured him.
Jenkins swallowed hard, tears welling in his eyes.
"It’s at the old municipal dump on Route 9," he confessed softly.
"Landry made me toss it into the chemical incinerator bin, but the incinerator hasn't been turned on since Thursday."
I stood up immediately, grabbing my coat.
"You did the right thing, Jenkins," I said.

I locked him in the room and called in my tactical evidence team.
We were going to the dump.
