Chapter 5 - An Early Arrival

Two weeks later, the intense stress of the investigations finally caught up with Olivia.
She was sitting in her lawyer’s office, reviewing the divorce papers, when a sharp pain ripped through her abdomen.
She gasped, clutching her stomach as warm fluid soaked through her dress.
"Mom," Olivia choked out, her face turning completely pale.
"It's time."
Margaret moved with lightning speed, abandoning the legal documents and rushing her daughter to the car.
They sped through the streets of Boston, the hazard lights flashing brightly against the afternoon traffic.
Olivia was only eight months pregnant, but the baby had decided it could not wait any longer.
By the time they reached the maternity ward, Olivia was in agonizing, active labor.
Because of the previous abuse, her body was struggling to handle the intense physical stress.
"Her blood pressure is spiking dangerously high," the attending physician yelled, monitoring the chaotic screens.
"We need to do an emergency C-section right now!"
Margaret held Olivia’s hand tightly as they rushed her down the bright white hallway toward surgery.
"You are safe now, Olivia," Margaret whispered fiercely in her daughter's ear.
"Ethan is locked away, he cannot hurt you or this baby ever again."
Olivia closed her eyes, letting the anesthesia pull her into the dark.
When she finally woke up hours later, the room was quiet and warm.
