Chapter 4 - The Betrayal in the Cell

Diane Brooks sat shivering in a cold, damp holding cell at the county jail.
Her designer dress was stained, and her flawless makeup was ruined by hours of hysterical crying.
When the heavy metal door finally opened, it wasn't her highly paid lawyer who walked in.
It was Margaret, looking incredibly sharp in a tailored black suit.
"What do you want?" Diane spat, wrapping her arms around herself.
"I came to give you an update on your beloved son," Margaret said smoothly, taking a seat.
"Ethan just gave a full confession to the military police."
Diane’s eyes widened in sheer, unadulterated panic.
"He told them that the murder plot was entirely your idea," Margaret lied flawlessly.
"He claims you manipulated him, drugged Olivia without his knowledge, and forced him to sign the insurance papers."
"That is a lie!" Diane screamed, jumping up and gripping the iron bars.
"He is the one who beat her, he is the one who forged the signatures!"
Margaret discreetly tapped the hidden recording app on her smartwatch.
"So, you admit that your son committed assault and forgery?" Margaret pressed casually.
"Yes!" Diane shrieked, desperate to save her own skin.
"I only suggested the insurance money, but Ethan is the one who put his hands on her!"
Margaret slowly stood up, brushing a piece of invisible lint from her jacket.
"Thank you, Diane," Margaret smiled coldly.
