Chapter 16 - The Trap is Set

Vincent arrived at the secure luxury penthouse in downtown Chicago just as the sun began to rise.
Hannah was waiting for him at the door with a first aid kit and a glass of whiskey.
She did not cry when she saw his bruised ribs and the cut on his cheek.
She calmly cleaned his wounds and kissed his forehead like a soldier returning from a victorious battle.
Vincent drank the whiskey and told her that Lorenzo had managed to escape the factory fire.
His father had slipped through the FBI perimeter using a network of underground smuggler tunnels.
Lorenzo was a wounded animal now and that made him incredibly dangerous.
He would not stop until he had destroyed their lives and reclaimed his twisted honor.
Hannah sat down at her laptop and began typing at an incredible speed.
She told Vincent that they could not spend the rest of their lives hiding in secure penthouses.
They needed to draw the old ghost out into the open where his street tactics would completely fail him.
She proposed a plan that was so reckless and brilliant it left Vincent speechless.
Hannah was going to host the largest philanthropic gala the city of Chicago had ever seen.
She would announce the final permanent transfer of the Caruso billion-dollar trust to global charities.
The gala would be held at the grandest museum in the city with hundreds of high-profile guests.
She knew Lorenzo's massive ego would never allow him to let his money be given away publicly.
He would be forced to attack the event in person to assert his dominance and stop the transfer.
Vincent immediately argued against the idea because it put her directly in the line of fire.
He had spent his whole life trying to keep her away from the violence of his family.
Hannah took his rough hands in hers and looked at him with absolute certainty.
She reminded him that they were partners in every sense of the word.
She was not going to sit in a glass tower while he fought his demons in the dark.
Vincent looked into her fierce eyes and finally agreed to the dangerous gamble.
They spent the next three days using their immense wealth to prepare the ultimate trap.
They hired the most elite private security contractors in the world to pose as waiters and valets.
They installed hidden cameras and weapon scanners at every entrance of the museum.
