Chapter 23 - Twilight Across the Bay

The next morning broke with a magnificent palette of violet and gold stretching across the Massachusetts Bay. I stood on the glass-walled balcony of the penthouse, wrapped in a cashmere throw, holding my customary cup of coffee as the morning breeze carried the crisp scent of salt and pine.

Down below, the harbor ferries blew their resonant morning whistles, greeting another vibrant, peaceful day in a city reborn. Footsteps approached softly from behind, followed by the familiar, comforting weight of Damian’s arms sliding around my waist, pulling me backward against his chest.

He rested his chin comfortably on my shoulder, watching the sun climb higher into the brilliant azure sky.

“Morning, director,” Damian murmured, his voice rich with morning warmth.

“Morning, Volkov,” I smiled, covering his hands with my own.
