Chapter 41 - The Quiet Sanctuary

As afternoon faded into evening, the estate embraced a profound, atmospheric stillness. The heavy iron gates at the perimeter remained permanently sealed against the outside world, while the interior courtyards bloomed with late-summer flora under the careful tending of the estate's groundskeepers.
Penny called briefly from her studio in River North, her voice bubbling with the excited energy of an artist whose upcoming European retrospective was receiving rave reviews from international critics. She didn't ask for permission, and she didn't need financial backing; she simply wanted to share her joy with the sister who had cleared the path for her freedom.
"She’s thriving," I noted aloud as I set the encrypted phone back onto its cradle.
"She always had the talent," Adrian observed, leaning against the edge of the desk. "She just needed the monsters to clear the room so she could paint."
