Chapter 37 - The Sanctuary of Stone

Night fell quickly over the bluffs, blanketing the estate in a quiet, velvet darkness that was pierced only by the steady, rhythmic blue pulse of the perimeter security sensors. Inside, the fires crackled softly in the hearths, filling the grand rooms with warmth and the rich scent of cedar.
We sat together on the deep leather sofa in the master study, the low amber light casting long shadows across the walls. There were no ledgers open, no screens glowing with telemetry data, and no urgent calls waiting on the encrypted lines. For the first time in our lives, the horizon was completely clear of conflict.
Adrian rested his arm along the back of the sofa, drawing me close against his side. I rested my head on his shoulder, letting my eyes close as I listened to the steady, powerful rhythm of his breathing.

Adrian didn't hesitate. He tightened his embrace, pressing a firm, warm kiss into my hair. "If he hadn't brought us together, I would have found you anyway. Some things aren't left to chance, Elena. They’re written into the stone."
