Chapter 4 - The Toxic Trap

Gabriel recognized the deadly, synthetic chemical scent of the military-grade neurotoxin almost immediately.

He knew they had exactly three minutes before the deadly gas would cause their lungs to completely and painfully shut down.

He urgently ripped off his expensive cotton shirt and pressed it incredibly hard against Nora’s tiny, fragile face.

He strictly ordered Maren to tightly cover her own mouth with her thick sweater and stay as low to the ground as possible.

The cunning Russian mercenaries had somehow managed to digitally hack into the mansion’s highly secure internal ventilation systems.

Gabriel crawled desperately across the cold steel floor toward the emergency manual override panel hidden cleverly under the floorboards.

His vision began to aggressively blur, and his chest burned as the toxic gas rapidly filled the highly confined space.

He frantically entered the complex mechanical override codes with violently trembling, increasingly numb fingers.

The heavy steel door finally clicked loudly and slid open with a screeching, metallic groan that echoed in the dark.

Gabriel quickly grabbed Maren’s hand and carried Nora out into the thick, smoke-filled chaos of the main hallway.

He could see that the entire west wing of his beautiful mansion was currently engulfed in roaring, unstoppable flames.

Ruthless mercenaries were systematically executing Gabriel’s surviving, injured guards on the ruined first floor below them.

There was absolutely no safe way to reach the heavily fortified underground garage without being immediately spotted and killed.

Gabriel silently guided Maren toward the master bedroom balcony that secretly overlooked the expansive rear gardens.

They carefully climbed over the wet stone railing and dropped safely down onto the soft, rain-soaked grass below.

The freezing, violent rain soaked them completely to the bone as they ran desperately toward the tall perimeter wall.

They finally reached a hidden, rusty maintenance gate that led directly into the dense, sprawling forest behind the estate.

Gabriel quickly punched his secret numeric code into the electronic keypad, hoping for a green light.

Instead, a bright red error light flashed angrily, indicating the entire system had been deliberately disabled.

A dark, menacing figure slowly stepped out from behind a massive oak tree holding a heavy assault rifle.

David smiled maliciously through the pouring rain and proudly held up the severed electrical wires of the gate's control box.
