Chapter 10 - The Master of the House

The private, highly secure underground hospital suite was perfectly silent except for the incredibly rhythmic beeping of the life-saving heart monitor.

Gabriel sat completely still in a plush armchair, gently holding Maren’s warm, living hand directly against his lips.

It had been two excruciating, highly stressful weeks since the intense surgical team had miraculously managed to restart her heart and save her life.

Nora was sleeping completely peacefully on the comfortable sofa, tightly clutching her deeply beloved, slightly dirty yellow blanket.

Maren slowly opened her beautiful, bright eyes and smiled incredibly weakly at the strong man who was fiercely guarding her.

Gabriel leaned intimately forward and softly, sincerely promised her that absolutely no one would ever be allowed to hurt them again.

He had masterfully used the Russian syndicate’s sudden collapse to completely and legally legitimize his massive business empire.

He was absolutely no longer a feared, ruthless mafia boss hiding alone in a incredibly dark, empty mansion.

Six beautifully peaceful months later, the sprawling, magnificent Kane estate was finally filled with bright sunlight and genuine, constant laughter.

Mrs. Whitfield had been completely forgiven and was safely, happily reunited with her successfully rescued grandchildren.

Maren elegantly walked down the grand marble staircase wearing a stunning, incredibly beautiful white wedding dress.

Gabriel stood proudly at the bottom of the stairs, his entire heart full of a incredible peace he had never truly known existed.

He lovingly lifted Nora high into his strong arms and passionately kissed his beautiful bride directly at the ornate altar.

They were finally a real, completely unbreakable family living totally free from the incredibly dark, dangerous shadows of the criminal underworld.

Later that beautiful evening, Gabriel walked alone into his private study to permanently lock away his old, violent weapons for good.

He slowly opened his incredibly heavy steel floor safe and immediately froze in pure, absolutely chilling shock.

Sitting directly on top of his massive stacks of cash was a pristine, incredibly ominous blood-red envelope.

It prominently bore the royal wax seal of the Italian High Commission, a deadly organization that had supposedly vanished fifty years ago.

The elegant, highly intimidating handwritten note tucked inside contained only a single, absolutely terrifying sentence: "We gladly accept your sudden resignation, Mr. Kane, but the extraordinarily gifted child actually belongs to us."
