Chapter 8 - Blood on the Roses

Alessandro burst through the terrace doors just as one of the masked men flanked Enzo’s position.
Without hesitating, Alessandro raised his weapon and fired, dropping the attacker instantly.
He scanned the chaotic scene, desperate to find Rosa.
He saw her pinned behind a marble fountain, shielding herself from the crossfire.
"Cover me!" Alessandro roared to Enzo over the deafening noise.
Alessandro sprinted across the open lawn, bullets kicking up dirt at his heels.
He dove behind the fountain, sliding next to a terrified Rosa.
"Are you hit?" he demanded, checking her arms and face frantically.
"I'm okay, I'm okay!" she cried, clinging to his jacket.
"Where is Lily?" he asked, his eyes wild with panic.
"She is inside with the nanny," Rosa gasped, shaking uncontrollably.
Alessandro pulled her tight against his chest, wrapping his body around hers like a human shield.
The heavy gunfire outside suddenly ceased, replaced by the shouts of Alessandro’s victorious men.
