Chapter 2 - The Silent Vow

Alessandro did not stand up.
He kept his dark, piercing gaze locked on the little girl in front of him.
Rosa rushed forward, her hands shaking as she grabbed Lily’s shoulders.
"I am so sorry, Mr. Moretti," she whispered, her voice trembling with absolute terror.
"She slipped away from me, please forgive us."
Alessandro slowly raised his hand, silencing the panicked mother without a single word.
He looked at the poisoned crystal goblet in his hand.
Then, he looked across the grand ballroom at Vivian and Luca.
They were still smiling, completely unaware that a deaf three-year-old had just shattered their perfect assassination plot.
Alessandro set the glass down on a nearby silver tray with deliberate slowness.
"Take your daughter and go to my private office," Alessandro signed to Rosa, remembering she must know ASL too.
Rosa gasped, shocked that the ruthless mob boss was communicating in her daughter's language.
"Lock the door from the inside and do not open it for anyone but me," he spoke aloud this time, his voice a low, dangerous gravel.
Rosa did not hesitate for a second.
She scooped Lily into her arms and practically ran toward the west wing of the mansion.
Alessandro stood up, buttoning his suit jacket.
He signaled to Enzo, his most loyal captain, who was standing by the terrace doors.
Enzo walked over, his eyes scanning the room for threats.

"Lock down the estate," Alessandro whispered, his face an unreadable mask of stone.
"No one leaves tonight."
