Chapter 10: The Winter Storm
Winter in Oakhaven was fierce. In mid-January, a severe nor'easter battered the coastline with sixty-mile-per-hour winds and freezing rain.
The old municipal gym, which had served as the town’s temporary shelter during severe weather, suffered structural damage when a nearby pine tree collapsed onto its roof. Over forty residents, including several elderly couples and families with young children, needed immediate relocation.
Clara immediately opened her ground-floor studio space, working alongside Marcus, Maya, and local volunteers to set up cots, distribute blankets, and prepare hot meals using portable stoves.
For three days, the studio was filled with the sounds of children playing board games, neighbors comforting one another, and community members sharing stories by the warm glow of space heaters.
