Before Julian left Oakhaven that evening, he handed Clara a sealed manila envelope.
""I bought back the intellectual property rights to your firm’s designs,"" Julian said, standing by his car. ""I used my personal trust fund. Mother was furious, but for the first time, I didn't care. It’s yours, Clara. It always was.""
Clara held the envelope, feeling the weight of the documents inside. ""Thank you, Julian. That took courage.""
""It was the bare minimum,"" Julian replied with a sad, self-aware smile. ""Take care of yourself, Clara.""
When Clara returned to her apartment, she reviewed the legal documents. Her designs—her life’s early work—were legally returned to her, free of corporate liens or Bellamy family claims.
She did not use the assets to restart a corporate firm in the city. Instead, she registered a new independent studio: *Evans Civic Architecture*, headquartered in Oakhaven. She assigned the patents to a public trust that allowed small municipal projects to use her sustainable structural blueprints royalty-free.
