The gravel driveway crunched beneath the wheels of Clara’s suitcase, the rhythm harsh and steady against the humid evening air. Behind her, the double oak doors of the Bellamy estate remained wide open, framing three figures frozen in shock, guilt, and indignation.

Inside that house was Julian’s mother, Victoria Bellamy, clutching her emerald-draped authority like armor; Julian, caught forever between filial duty and genuine affection; and Evelyn, the family friend whose quiet betrayal had finally tipped the scales.
