Chapter 4 - The Night of Retribution

By midnight, the storm over Chicago had reached its peak. Thunder rolled across the dark skies, and lightning illuminated the wet stone walls of the Falcone estate.

Inside the private medical wing, Sophia was fast asleep in a soft bed, clutching her wooden doll, completely unharmed. Two loyal guards stood post outside her door.

In the master suite, Rosa sat on the edge of the large velvet sofa, wearing a warm cream sweater. She was holding a cup of hot tea, her hands still shaking slightly from the afternoon's horrors.

The heavy doors opened, and Dante walked into the room.

He had showered and changed into a dark charcoal dress shirt, his hair damp. The icy rage that had consumed him during the battle had settled into a cold, absolute resolve.

He walked over to Rosa, taking the tea cup from her hands and setting it on the table. Then, he sat beside her, pulling her soft hands into his large palms.

"Marina has been captured," Dante said quietly. "My men intercepted her at the airport as she tried to board a private jet to Europe."

Rosa looked into his dark eyes. "What... what will happen to her?"

"She will spend the rest of her life in an isolated family estate in Sicily, stripped of every penny and every title," Dante replied firmly. "And as for the Moretti clan... their bosses have surrendered all northern territory to me tonight. They know that if they ever step foot near Chicago again, I will erase their entire bloodline."

Rosa let out a long, quiet breath, leaning her forehead against Dante’s shoulder.

"It's over," she whispered.

"It is over," Dante agreed. He reached out with his hand, gently lifting her chin so her hazel eyes met his.

For a long moment, neither of them spoke. The sound of rain beating against the glass filled the quiet room.

"When Carmela died," Dante murmured, his voice deep and rough with raw emotion, "I locked my heart behind that door. I thought love was a weakness that only brought pain and death. I walked those halls every day at four o'clock to punish myself for surviving when she didn't."

He gently stroked Rosa’s soft cheek with his thumb, his gaze scanning every feature of her face with intense, breathtaking reverence.

"And then a chubby little girl in crooked pigtails mocked my walk," Dante smiled softly, a tear brimming in his eye. "And her mother brought light back into my dark life. You didn't just save my house, Rosa. You saved me."

Rosa’s heart hammered in her chest, tears spilling down her cheeks. "Dante... I'm just a maid. I'm not sleek or beautiful like the women in your world—"

"Stop," Dante commanded gently, pressing his thumb against her lips. "Don't ever say that again. You are the most beautiful, strong, and incredible woman I have ever known. I don't want a woman from my old world, Rosa. I want you."

He leaned in slowly, his eyes locking onto hers, giving her every opportunity to pull away.

Rosa didn't pull away. She closed her eyes, leaning forward, and met his lips in a deep, passionate kiss that shattered every doubt, every fear, and every insecurity she had ever carried.

Dante wrapped his arms tightly around her full waist, pulling her onto his lap, kissing her with an intense, desperate hunger that consumed both of their souls. Rosa held onto his shoulders, running her fingers through his damp dark hair, giving herself completely to the powerful, protective man who loved her for exactly who she was.
