Chapter 30 - The Empire of Glass

A year had passed since the airstrip, and the underworld of the East Coast had been fundamentally transformed.

With the Commission completely wiped out, there was no one left to challenge the Moretti family.

But Clara had not been content with ruling in the shadows.

She had used her brilliant mind to transition their vast wealth into entirely legitimate enterprises.

The blood money had built hospitals, real estate conglomerates, and international shipping companies.

Arthur had traded his tactical vests for bespoke Tom Ford suits, acting as the legitimate CEO of their new corporate empire.

They stood together on the balcony of their new penthouse, a massive, modern glass structure that overlooked the entire glittering city.

It was a far cry from the dark, gothic estate they had lost, representing a new era of clean, untouchable power.

Arthur wrapped his arms around Clara from behind, resting his chin on the top of her head as they watched the city lights.

“I had a meeting with the governor today,” Arthur murmured, kissing her hair.

“He asked for our endorsement in the next election.”

Clara smiled, leaning back against his broad, muscular chest.

“Tell him our endorsement will cost him a tax break for the new children's hospital,” she negotiated effortlessly.

Arthur chuckled, a deep, warm sound that proved his soul had finally found peace.

“You drive a hard bargain, Mrs. Moretti.”

Clara turned around in his arms, looking up into the dark eyes that still looked at her with pure, primal obsession.

She reached down, taking his massive, scarred hand and placing it gently against her flat stomach.

“I need to make sure the city is perfect, Arthur,” Clara whispered, her eyes shining with unshed tears of absolute joy.

“Because we are going to need a very safe place to raise our child.”

Arthur froze, his entire world stopping on its axis as the weight of her words crashed into him.

He looked down at her stomach, and then back up at her face, his eyes wide with a beautiful, vulnerable disbelief.

“A baby?” Arthur choked out, his voice cracking with emotion.

Clara nodded, a radiant, beautiful smile lighting up her face.

Arthur fell to his knees on the balcony, pressing his face gently against her stomach, wrapping his arms around her waist as he openly wept.

The most dangerous man in the city was completely undone by a miracle he never believed he deserved.

Clara ran her fingers through his dark hair, looking out at the city that they had conquered together.

She had started as a maid with nothing, scrubbing floors to survive in a violent world.

The monster had been tamed, not by force, but by a love strong enough to rewrite their entire destiny.
