Chapter 28 - The Castle Siege

The estate became a terrifying maze of shadows and sudden, violent death.
Arthur moved like a phantom through the grand corridors, systematically hunting the mercenaries room by room.
Clara stayed right behind him, covering his blind spots with a chillingly steady hand on her revolver.
They reached the grand staircase just as Marco and five of their own guards engaged a squad of mercenaries in the foyer below.
The gunfight was chaotic, the muzzle flashes illuminating the terrified faces of the household staff hiding in the kitchen.
“Cover me!” Arthur yelled to Marco over the deafening roar of automatic weapons.
Arthur vaulted over the marble railing, landing gracefully on the ground floor and flanking the mercenaries from the side.
He moved with a brutal, unapologetic violence, neutralizing three hostiles before they even realized he was there.
Clara fired from the top of the stairs, hitting a mercenary who had tried to ambush Arthur from behind a pillar.
The man dropped his weapon and collapsed, a single silver bullet lodged perfectly in his shoulder.
Within ten minutes, the highly trained hit squad had been entirely wiped out by the ruthless efficiency of the Moretti family.
The emergency lights finally flickered on, casting a dim, red glow over the bloodied foyer.
Marco approached Arthur, holding his bleeding arm but looking triumphant.
“That was the last of them, Boss,” Marco reported, kicking a weapon away from a dead mercenary.
But Clara’s sharp eyes caught a small, blinking red light attached to the tactical vest of one of the dead men.
Her blood ran cold as she realized Dominic’s true plan.
The mercenaries were not meant to win the gunfight.
They were meant to deliver a payload.
“Arthur, the vests are rigged with C4!” Clara screamed, recognizing the explosive charges from her days reading security manifests.
Arthur did not waste a single second asking questions.
He grabbed Clara by the waist, practically throwing her toward the heavy steel doors of the underground panic room.
“Everyone in the bunker, now!” Arthur roared, shoving Marco and the surviving guards ahead of him.
They dove into the reinforced concrete room just as Arthur slammed the heavy steel door shut and spun the locking wheel.
A split second later, the explosive charges detonated simultaneously.

The massive shockwave shook the very foundation of the earth, cracking the concrete walls of the panic room.
Dust and debris rained down from the ceiling as the grand estate above them was completely blown apart.
