Chapter 29 - The Final Confrontation

They remained trapped in the dark bunker for four hours before the rescue teams managed to dig through the rubble.

When Arthur pushed the heavy steel door open, the sight was absolutely devastating.

The beautiful, sprawling estate that Clara had restored was reduced to a smoking pile of shattered brick and twisted metal.

Arthur stood in the ruins of his home, his fists clenched so hard his knuckles bled.

Clara walked up beside him, her beautiful face covered in soot and dust, but her spirit entirely unbroken.

“He destroyed our home,” Arthur whispered, his voice trembling with an apocalyptic rage.

Clara reached out and took his hand, her grip firm and grounding.

“A house is just bricks, Arthur,” Clara told him softly.

“Our empire is still intact, and Dominic has just fired his last bullet.”

She pulled her encrypted phone from her pocket, wiping the dust off the screen.

“I am tracing the signal from the detonators right now.”

Arthur looked at her, his dark eyes burning with a love and admiration so deep it actually hurt his chest.

“You are a miracle, Clara.”

Ten minutes later, the trace pinged to a private airstrip on the outskirts of the city.

Dominic was trying to flee the country, assuming his explosive trap had successfully killed the king and queen.

Arthur did not call for an army.

He took Clara, Marco, and one heavily armed SUV.

They tore through the city streets, arriving at the airstrip just as Dominic’s private jet was spooling its engines.

Arthur drove the SUV straight through the chain-link fence, ramming it directly into the landing gear of the jet.

The impact crippled the aircraft instantly, sparking a massive fire on the tarmac.

Dominic stumbled out of the emergency exit of the plane, coughing on the thick black smoke.

Arthur stepped out of the ruined SUV, holding his heavy sidearm at his side.

Dominic looked up, his arrogant face twisting into a mask of pure, absolute terror as he realized Arthur was still alive.

“Arthur, please!” Dominic begged, dropping to his knees on the wet tarmac.

“We can make a deal, we can share the coast!”

Arthur walked up to the old boss, his face as cold and unyielding as a gravestone.

“You brought a bomb into a house where my wife was sleeping,” Arthur stated softly.

Clara stepped out of the SUV, standing right behind her husband, watching the man who had tried to kill her.

Arthur did not hesitate this time.

He raised his weapon and put a single bullet directly through Dominic’s heart.

The Commission was dead, and the war was finally over.
