Chapter 10 - AN UNBROKEN PROMISE

One year later.

The golden afternoon sun was setting over the Atlantic Ocean, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of deep orange, pink, and soft purple.

The grand gardens of the Callahan Estate on Sullivan’s Island were filled with soft music, glowing fairy lights strung through the ancient oak trees, and the joyful sounds of over two hundred guests.

It was a celebration of a new beginning.

Standing near the wooden gazebo at the edge of the lawn was Grant Callahan. He wore a crisp black tuxedo, looking handsome, commanding, and profoundly happy.

Beside him stood Jack Mercer, wearing a matching suit, holding a velvet ring box with a proud, tearful smile on his face.

And sitting right at Grant’s right side, wearing a collar made of fresh white roses and eucalyptus leaves, was Titan. The 145-pound Cane Corso sat tall and proud, his dark eyes watching the stone pathway leading down from the house.

The gentle acoustic guitar music shifted into a slow, beautiful melody.

The guests stood up, turning their heads toward the rear terrace of the mansion.

Walking down the rose-petal-covered path was Emily Carter.

She took everyone's breath away.

She wore a stunning ivory lace wedding gown that flowed around her like water, her brown hair styled in soft, elegant waves adorned with white jasmine flowers. Walking beside her, holding her arm proudly with a glowing smile, was her father, Thomas Carter, fully recovered and walking steadily on his own two feet.

As Emily walked down the aisle, her eyes locked onto Grant’s.

She remembered the terrified girl in cheap sneakers who had walked into a bloody ballroom eighteen months ago. She remembered the fear, the rain, the sound of gunshots, and the terrifying dog who had chosen to trust her when no one else would.

And now, looking at the man waiting for her at the end of the altar, she saw her home, her protector, and her greatest love.

When Emily reached the gazebo, her father kissed her cheek softly, placing her hand into Grant’s warm, steady grip.

"You look breathtaking, Emily," Grant whispered, his voice thick with deep emotion.

"You don't look too bad yourself, Mr. Callahan," she whispered back, her eyes sparkling with tears of pure joy.

The minister stepped forward, opening his book.

"We are gathered here today," the minister spoke warmly, "to unite two souls who found each other not in peace, but in the midst of a storm. Two people who showed us that love, courage, and loyalty can heal even the deepest wounds."

The ceremony proceeded with quiet, beautiful grace.

When it came time for the vows, Grant took both of Emily's hands into his own, looking straight into her eyes.

"Emily," Grant said softly, his deep voice carrying over the quiet ocean breeze. "On the night we met, I was a dying man surrounded by enemies. I thought the world was cold, dark, and ruthless. And then you walked into my house. You sat on a bloody floor, reached out your hand to a beast everyone else wanted to kill, and you saved my life."

He swallowed hard, his thumb gently stroking her knuckles.

"You didn't just heal my body, Emily. You saved my soul. You gave me a reason to build a better world. I promise to love you, protect you, and stand by your side through every storm that ever comes our way, for as long as I live."

Emily wiped a tear from her cheek, smiling through her tears.

"Grant," Emily spoke, her voice steady and full of devotion. "When I walked into your house, I was broken, exhausted, and afraid. I thought I was alone in this world. But when I looked into your eyes, and when I touched Titan’s head, I knew I had found something worth fighting for. You showed me what real strength looks like. You gave my father his life back, and you gave me a future I never dared to dream of. I am yours, Grant. Forever and always."

Jack stepped forward, opening the ring box.

Grant took the sparkling diamond ring, sliding it onto Emily's finger. Emily took the solid gold band, sliding it onto Grant's hand.

"By the power vested in me," the minister declared with a broad smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride!"

Grant pulled Emily gently into his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips to hers in a deep, passionate kiss.

The entire crowd erupted into thunderous cheers and applause!

Titan stood up on his hind legs, resting his massive front paws lightly against Grant's hip, letting out a loud, joyous bark that made everyone laugh and cheer even louder!

Later that evening, after the food had been served and the dancing had begun under the starry coastal sky, Grant and Emily walked hand-in-hand down to the quiet sandy beach below the estate.

The dark ocean waves lapped gently against the shore, sparkling beneath the silver light of the full moon.

Titan ran ahead of them, chasing the foam of the waves, his tail wagging happily in the night breeze.

Emily leaned her head against Grant’s broad shoulder, wrapping her arm around his waist as they walked along the water’s edge.

"Happy, Mrs. Callahan?" Grant asked softly, kissing the top of her head.

"Happier than I’ve ever been in my entire life," Emily whispered, looking up at him.

Grant stopped, pulling her close against his chest, watching their dog run along the moonlit sand.

The violent shadows of their past were gone forever, replaced by an unbroken promise of love, protection, and a legacy that would stand strong against any storm.
