Chapter 8 - Healing the House

With the darkness purged from our lives, the fourteen-thousand-square-foot mansion underwent a profound metamorphosis.
I ordered the security systems upgraded—not to keep enemies out, but to ensure peace reigned within. The cold, intimidating aura that had defined my business empire was carefully kept outside the front gates. Inside, the house became a sanctuary of light, warmth, and genuine family life.
Isabella’s recovery accelerated rapidly once the daily poison was removed from her life. Within months, her strength fully returned. The roses came back to her cheeks, the light returned to her eyes, and her laughter filled the long hallways that had once felt so heavy and hollow.
Little Luca grew into a thriving, energetic toddler with his mother’s bright eyes and an infectious, giggling laugh that chased away any lingering ghosts of the past.
One Saturday afternoon, as I sat on the back patio watching Isabella chase Luca across the emerald-green lawn, Marcus walked up quietly and handed me a leather-bound portfolio containing our final asset restructuring reports.
"Everything is clean, boss," Marcus reported. "Evelyn’s accounts have been fully seized and redirected into a charitable foundation supporting recovering mothers and child welfare—all set up anonymously in Isabella’s name."

I took the portfolio, tossed it onto the glass table, and looked back out at the lawn where Isabella had scooped Luca up into her arms, spinning him around as they both laughed under the warm autumn sun.
"Good," I said softly. "Burn the rest of the files, Marcus. We don't look back anymore."
