Chapter 10 - The New Dawn

The aftermath of the shipyard battle changed the entire underworld landscape of New York City forever.

With Dante Falcone dead, the remaining capos of his syndicate immediately surrendered their territories to the Moretti family.

Victor became the absolute, uncontested king of the city, bringing a strange, rigid peace to the violent streets.

Two weeks later, the snow finally began to melt, revealing the bright, hopeful green grass beneath.

I sat in the warm, sunlit nursery of Victor's newly secured and heavily fortified primary estate.

Lily was completely healthy, giggling happily as she played with a massive pile of expensive wooden blocks.

The silver locket remained safely tucked away in a velvet box; she would not need to wear the target of the Falcone crest ever again.

The heavy oak door of the nursery opened softly, and Victor stepped into the room.

He looked completely different from the cold, ruthless man I had met in the freezing mansion.

He wore a simple gray sweater, and the harsh, dangerous lines around his eyes had significantly softened.

He walked over and sat on the plush rug next to Lily, handing her a blue block with his large, scarred hands.

"The final paperwork has been completely processed," Victor said softly, looking up at me.

"The Falcone assets have been liquidated and transferred into a secure trust fund under your name."

He paused, a flicker of genuine anxiety crossing his handsome features.

"You have twenty million dollars, Hannah. You are completely free to take Lily and go anywhere in the world."

My heart squeezed painfully in my chest at the thought of packing a bag and walking away from him.

"You promised my mother you would protect me," I said quietly, searching his eyes.

"The threat is entirely gone," Victor replied, his voice thick with repressed emotion. "My vow is fulfilled."

I stood up, walking across the soft rug to kneel directly in front of the most feared man in America.

"I am not asking about your vow to my mother, Victor," I whispered, reaching out to gently touch his cheek.

"I am asking what you actually want."

Victor closed his eyes, leaning heavily into the warmth of my hand.

"I want you," he confessed, his voice breaking in the quiet, sunlit room.

"I want to protect you, I want to raise Lily as my own, and I want to spend the rest of my life trying to be worthy of you."

I smiled, tears of pure, overwhelming happiness blurring my vision.

"Then I guess we aren't going anywhere," I replied softly.

Victor opened his eyes, pulling me into a fierce, desperate kiss that tasted like survival, hope, and absolute devotion.

I had walked into his mansion with absolutely nothing left to lose.

And in the end, I found a family, an empire, and a love that was completely unbreakable.
