Chapter 6 - The Traitor Within

Three busy months had passed since the brutal destruction of the Volkov syndicate.
Gabriel used the power vacuum to consolidate his vast criminal empire.
He forced his wealthy rivals to sign binding peace treaties of submission.
He liquidated his dangerous illegal operations, transferring his billions into legitimate global real estate.
He was determined to build a secure, clean legacy for his new family.
Leah was adjusting to her luxurious new life with graceful, humble beauty.
She was adored by every heavily armed guard who patrolled the beautiful estate.
Noah was thriving, growing into a happy, energetic toddler with Gabriel's exact dark eyes.
One sunny afternoon, Gabriel was working in his oak-paneled home office.
Ethan knocked on the heavy wooden door, his face pale and grim.
"Boss, we finished interrogating the surviving mercenaries from the siege," Ethan reported cautiously.
"Viktor Volkov didn't orchestrate the hit on Hanover Street by himself."
Gabriel slowly closed his laptop, his jaw tightening.
"Explain," Gabriel demanded, his voice dropping into a lethal register.
"Someone inside your inner circle provided the Russians with Michael's private dinner itinerary," Ethan revealed.
"They traded your brother's life for a massive cut of our southern shipping ports."
Gabriel stood up, walking over to the window to process the agonizing betrayal.
"Do we have a name?" Gabriel asked, staring out at the manicured lawns.
"Yes," Ethan sighed heavily.
"It was your uncle, Silas Mercer."
Gabriel closed his eyes as a wave of sickening disappointment washed over him.
Silas had always resented Gabriel's father for handing the empire down to the younger generation.
Silas wanted the throne, and he was willing to slaughter his own nephews to get it.
"Where is my uncle right now?" Gabriel asked, turning back to face his loyal enforcer.
"He is currently hosting a private poker game at his warehouse by the docks," Ethan replied.
Gabriel holstered his weapon, his face devoid of any familial mercy.
