Chapter 15 - The Lion's Den
The abandoned shipping yards were a sprawling maze of rusting metal containers and decaying cranes.
The freezing wind howled through the narrow corridors of steel, completely masking the sound of Gabriel's approaching footsteps.
He walked perfectly upright, offering no resistance as dozens of red laser sights painted his chest from the shadows.
Anya Volkov stood in the center of a large clearing, surrounded by a dozen heavily armed bodyguards.
She smiled triumphantly as Gabriel approached, her eyes shining with the sick thrill of an absolute victory.
"I must admit, I genuinely thought you would try to fight your way out of this," Anya taunted, gesturing for her men to pat him down.
The guards aggressively searched Gabriel, confirming that he had honored the terms and arrived completely unarmed.
"Disarm the explosives in the housing projects immediately," Gabriel demanded, ignoring the weapons pointed at his head.
Anya laughed, pulling out a small electronic detonator and tossing it casually onto the wet concrete.
"The bombs were disabled ten minutes ago; I am a woman of my word," Anya sneered viciously.
She stepped closer to Gabriel, pulling the silver dagger from her belt and pressing the sharp edge against his cheek.
"Now, you are going to bleed for my father," she whispered, dragging the blade slowly down his jawline.
Gabriel did not flinch, his face remaining as solid and unbreakable as carved marble.
The guards forced Gabriel to his knees, binding his wrists with heavy steel zip-ties behind his back.
Anya delivered a brutal kick to his ribs, sending him crashing onto the cold, unforgiving pavement.
Gabriel coughed violently, tasting copper in his mouth, but he refused to give her the satisfaction of a single scream.
He closed his eyes, focusing his entire mind on the beautiful image of Leah and Noah waiting safely by the ocean.
