Chapter 4 - THE HOSTILE TAKEOVER

The boardroom of Whitfield Enterprises was buzzing with anxious energy.
Charles Voss stood at the head of the massive mahogany table, projecting an image of deep sorrow.
"As you know, our beloved CEO is awake, but tragically, he is not of sound mind," Voss lied effortlessly.
He slid a forged medical document across the table to the other board members.
"The trauma has caused severe paranoia and cognitive decline," Voss continued, shaking his head.
"For the good of the company, we must activate the emergency succession clause today."
The board members murmured among themselves, blinded by the millions of dollars at stake.
Meanwhile, in the hospital, Daniel was fighting his own war with a borrowed laptop.
"I need you to access my private safe at the estate," Daniel told Maria urgently.
"But the house is crawling with Voss's security team," Maria protested, her hands shaking.
"You are the invisible woman, Maria," Daniel said, looking her dead in the eye.
"You have cleaned that house for three years, and those guards have never once looked at your face."
He gave her a complex series of numbers and a small brass key he had hidden in his hospital shoe.
"Inside the safe is a red hard drive containing proof of Voss embezzling company funds," Daniel explained.
"If he takes control of the company today, he will have the power to bury the evidence forever."
Maria looked at Sophia, who was happily drawing a picture on a medical notepad.

She realized that walking away would keep them safe, but it would sentence this man to death.
"I will get it," Maria promised, her voice finding a sudden, unexpected strength.
